Professional career

Cincinnati Bengals

Brewer was drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals in the third round (66th overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft. However shortly after being drafted by the Bengals, it was discovered that Brewer had a three-pack-a-day cigarette addiction.[1] As a rookie, Brewer did not see any game action.[2] In 2002, Brewer was in a battle for the starting tight end position along with Kirk McMullen and Matt Schobel.[3] Despite suffering from a bruised kneecap played in the first three games of the season[2] but strained his left knee in week three and missed the rest of the season.[3] Brewer had knee surgery on October 29, 2002[4] which was seven days before he was placed on injured reserve.[3] After battling with Schobel for the starting job once again in 2003, he was waived on August 31, 2003.[5]

Atlanta Falcons

One day after being waived by the Bengals, Brewer was claimed by the Atlanta Falcons.[3] During the 2003 season he made nine appearances without recording a stat.[2] On March 2, 2004, Brewer re-signed with the Falcons.[3] He was waived on June 30, 2004.[3]

Washington Redskins

On July 21, 2004, Brewer signed with the Washington Redskins.[6] He was released on August 3.[3]

San Diego Chargers

Following his release from the Redskins, Brewer was invited to try out with the San Diego Chargers on May 4, 2005.[3] The Chargers signed Brewer on May 13.[3] However after dealing with the same left knee that caused him troubles earlier in his career, Brewer was released on August 30, 2005.[3]
